29 February 2012

It seams so strange that this day only comes to pass every four years!  What is even stranger is that of all the friends I have on Facebook (and I have a pretty liberal friend policy...) that no one appears to have thier birthday today!

I was hoping that my friend would have her baby today, but little Lola Kate popped out to meet the world yesterday, and she is just so precious I can't wait to meet her!

There are some great wedding cakes so far this season and even more to come.  It is always even more special when I get to make cakes for the people close to me, so watch this space as it is my boyfriends birthday this week and also my mum's 60th in a couple of weeks.

So from a wet and raining Queenstown (and that hasn't been very usual this summer) here is a picture of the catering we did for a friends baby shower recently.

Take care and enjoy cake

Christmas is Coming!

Christmas Decorations have started popping up and it is hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner.  Cherry Blossom Cakes has been very busy making some great cakes this year and still loves being part of such great celebrations.

This week in the kitchen we come up with some great new cupcakes flavours with Christmas in mind.  These  cupcakes come in two sizes and a variety of box sizes are available.  Please check out our Christmas Treats Page for more information.

Another new product for Cherry Blossom Cakes is our delightful little macaroons.  They come in a variety of colours and flavours.  These can also be ordered in a number of different sized boxes and make a perfect little gifts.  You can order these by contacting us or alternatively pop along to one of the local farmers markets on a Saturday Morning until the end of Summer.

A new flavour for a new season!

Peanut Butter Cupcakes

As always my conversations often revolve around food, and this inspired my most recent cupcake flavour, chocolate with peanut butter frosting, a huge hit with my American friends and all those who love Reese's Pieces.

I am not sure about anywhere else, but definitely in Queenstown we are been experiencing the dramatic change of seasons!  The beautiful colours of autumn have been showing through and although I am sad to see summer go I can't help but be delighted by stunning colours that we are surrounded with.

All of these colours are shown off perfectly at the Arrowtown autumn festival. I was delighted by its rather amazing street parade and local talent during the evening.  As well as the changes in colour and temperature something else happens in Queenstown this time of year.  High Tea

It is time to say good bye to good friends that are only here for the summer season.  As many of you will know, I do not like saying good bye to friends, but in my own style I make sure they won't forget us down here.  So I ended the summer with a tennis tournament followed by a high tea served with Pimms!

End of the Farmers Market, Start of the Blog

As one activity finishes it feels like the right time to start a new one.  Tomorrow morning is the last of the Queenstown farmers markets for the summer season.  For the past 2 months every Saturday morning I have sold cupcakes at this very cute little farmers market.  I have learnt a lot and after initially making way to many cupcakes (friends and flatmates did not mind too much) I have finally managed to get the farmers market routine to a fine art.

Each week I make three different flavours, I always make Red Velvet, my personal favourite.  Other flavours that have made an appearance are: vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, kiwifruit, lemon and poppy seed, raspberry, chocolate and hazelnut, strawberry cheesecake, marshmallow and blueberry and lemon.  To celebrate the final market day, I have made a special cherry blossom cupcake stall cake!  I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it!
